Nature, Climate and the Church of England: The Bishop of Norwich in conversation with Nick Acheson

Tickets for the March 13th conversation between the Bishop of Norwich and Nick Acheson are now available and are selling fast, so go to https://felbeckfundraiser.eventbrite.co.uk They are only £11.50 and profits will go to Felbeck Trust.

The event will start at 18.30 with drinks available in the Meeting Room next to the church (not included in the ticket price), with the conversation starting at 19.15 and finishing, after a Q and A session, at 20.45. 

As you may well know, the Bishop, the Rt Rev Graham Usher, is the Church of England's lead on the environment and sustainability - and a keen beekeeper. Many of you will have met Nick or heard him talk, and will know what a stimulating and well-informed speaker he is. If you haven't read it, read his wonderful book, 'The Meaning of Geese'. He is also a patron of Felbeck Trust.

So, don't waste any time: go ahead and purchase a ticket or two - or more!

The BTO 2025 Heathland Birds Survey

SURVEY SITES AVAILABLE IN OUR AREA IF YOU ARE INTERESTED .....

The BTO 2025 Heathland Birds Survey will survey Nightjars, Woodlarks and Dartford Warblers, in all habitats, throughout the UK and Channel Islands in 2025. 

This will provide much needed population estimates since the previous survey around 20 years ago.

In addition to known sites, a sample of nearby suitable habitat will be covered to assess range expansion. Along with heathland, other sites will also be surveyed, such as clear-cut areas in commercial forests, moorlands, and coastal scrub, as they too are home to a similar selection of key species.

Twelve other important heathland bird species will be recorded, including Hobby, Long-eared Owl, Linnet, Tree Pipit and Grasshopper Warbler.

This survey, funded by Natural England and Defra, will be coordinated by BTO in partnership with RSPB. 

The online survey is open for registration and volunteers can sign up and request their survey squares for each species. All survey sites will be provided as 1-km squares, and volunteers will need to make a minimum of two visits to survey each species. 

Survey periods are 15 February to 31 May for Woodlark, 1 April to 30 June for Dartford Warbler, and 25 May to 15 July for Nightjar.

Membership Renewal - Subscriptions for 2025
 
We hope you will continue to support the club in 2025, our 10th Anniversary Year, by renewing your membership with us. The subs, which were due on 1st January, remain the same as last year: 
 
2025 calendar year membership of £15 per household to include a copy of the club’s printed 2024 Annual Bird Report which we hope will be ready for publication in the summer, or £12 without the report. 
 
Our preferred method of payment is by standing order, but one-off payments can be made electronically to the club account (Account Number: 20842968 / Sort Code: 30- 94-34; TSB) or by posting a cheque to the membership secretary Colin Blaxill at Caitlins, Bernard Close, High Kelling, Holt NR25 6QY. Cheques need to be made payable to “North East Norfolk Bird Club” and not NENBC. If you want to pay by cash then catch Colin or one of the other Committee Members at one of our events.
