Jeff first visited Finnmark in 1980 to see birdlife. He has friends in the area and he has returned every summer for the last few years to enjoy and study wildlife. Finnmark is the northern part of Norway with Finland to the south and Russia to the east. Most of the area where he records wildlife is either classic alpine or arctic tundra. The conditions are extremely harsh for both flora and fauna to survive and the talk will focus on these true survivors of Europe. He will cover his experiences of general wildlife recording and specific projects involving Slavonian Grebe, Lesser Whitefronts and Ruff.
Jeff has been a life-long birder and has been lecturing since 1980. He has travelled extensively and his concentration on South America in the 1980’s led him to be one of the founders of the Neo-tropical Birding Club and he has recently published a book on “The Larger Mammals of South America. ”He is the head of the conservation team at Yardley Chase Training Area in Northants where he has surveyed beetles, fungi and newts. He spends each summer recording wildlife in Norway.
