Meeting changed from Frampton to Titchwell as there is not much water at Frampton and the aim of this trip was to target waders. Sorry for the late notice but we are trying to ensure we have a better experience on the trip.

Hopefully we will see plenty of waders with a good chance of Harriers and possibly a rare migrant or two. There is a charge for non-members. Facilities and café on site. Full day outing.

An afternoon on the Nene Washes to see the winter wildlife and roost. Hopefully we will have the possibility of Short-
eared Owls, Long-eared Owl, Barn Owl and the famous Tawny Owl if it has returned to its winter roost hole in Lords
Halt. Marsh Harriers, and Cranes will hopefully roost in good numbers. Half-day meeting.

Conor’s talk reveals how this unschooled, impoverished, battle-scarred immigrant came to be so influential in the creation and rise of the modern-day conservation movement, and the “only man in the room” who supported pioneer female campaigners from the start. Conor’s talk links Hudson’s life and legacy to today and compares then and now. It’s a costume drama with plenty of birds. Conor says : “For some years now I have been immersed in restoring Hudson, a name that recurs in the literature of natural history, though the man himself remains mysterious and largely forgotten. Leafing through Hudson’s surviving letters has helped me to build a picture of the man, his milieu and his passions. One of these passions was Norfolk and its wildlife, and it is here that my life intersects with his and I find it easiest to re-imagine him.”    

 

Conor was born in Uganda, brought up in Scotland and now lives in Norfolk. He has worked in conservation for over 20 years in the UK and abroad and has written for a wide range of publications. In April 2022  he gave us a tremendous talk based on his book “Looking for the Goshawk” which was published in 2013.
