A smallish reservoir just outside Uppingham. An excellent site for winter waterfowl and usually holds both male and
female Smew at this time of year. Possibility of passage waders at the inlet.

free. It is a good way to get to know existing members and possibly improve your expertise.

The chance to boost your year list for 2026. We will start the day at the excellent RSPB Titchwell with a very varied
mix of birds on the reserve and sea before taking a late lunch. Hopefully a 50 to 70 species day. There is an entry
charge to the reserve for non-members. Please bring a packed lunch or food and drinks can be purchased from the
RSPB cafe at Titchwell. Following lunch we will then head for either Wells or Kings Lynn to watch either sites Harrier
roost. Both roosts are performing very well at the minute with Wells (Warham Greens) having regular Hen Harriers
and a Female Pallied Harrier and Kings Lynn (Roydon Common) having up to 6 Hen Harriers roosting nightly. Which
roost we choose will depend on which is performing best in preceding days.

Dawn will talk about the work of the Rare Breeding Birds Panel, present the trends for some of our rare breeding birds and talk about how you can help improve the quality and quantity of data that BTO collates.

 

Dawn is Head of Surveys at the BTO and oversees many of its large-scale bird surveys. She has worked for BTO for over 30 years in a range of ringing and census roles and was the Atlas Co-ordinator for Bird Atlas 2007-11. She is Secretary of the European Bird Census Council, Chair of the Rare Breeding Birds Panel and a member of the British Birds Rarities Committee.
