Thwaite Common

Image of Thwaite Common birding site

A gem of a find on the north side of Erpingham. Thwaite Common has no parking possibilities on the minor road so best approached foot from Erpingham or Alby or along Weavers Way. Notoriously wet in all seasons wellies are essential. A County Wildlife Site, it contains grassland, fen, scrub and ponds and an impressive range of flora & fauna. Orchids and bats are the specialities but birds and dragonflies makes a visit worthwhile in summer. Barn Owl + Little Owl on Chapel Road are possible extras. The "Friends of Thwaite Common" organise regular surveys and a monthly bird count usually on the 1st of the month. There is also a website :- friendsofthwaiteco.wixsite.com or contact Stephen Green (01263 761350) or through our club site, for more information. From the A140, the minor road to Thwaite is on the north side of Alby Crafts.
