Gresham Sewage Works

Image of Gresham Sewage Works birding site

Located on the Bessingham Road south of the village. Not the most glamorous-sounding of locations, but the small fenced-off sewage works site itself to the south west of Lower Gresham often attracts Pied and Grey Wagtail and most of the tits and finches. The surrounding arable environs attract gulls, raptors and thrushes a-plenty. There is room for a couple of vehicles to park on the road. There is no footpath around the sewage works but there are footpaths across some of the adjoining farmland. Over the road from the sewage works is the remains of ‘Gresham Castle’, a medieval fortified manor house, but don’t hold your breath as you can’t actually get to it and it is so overgrown that it is difficult to even pick out any of the grassy revetments! HABITAT TYPES: arable farmland, hedgerow, allotments, beck.
