Cromer Lighthouse & East Cliffs

Image of Cromer Lighthouse & East Cliffs birding site

The Lighthouse is best approached by parking in Cliff Road off B1159, as you head out of town towards Overstrand (NR27 0BU). There is a post-box on the corner on the right-hand side. Walk back to the junction, cross the road and head up the steps in front of you. Follow this path through the trees, bear right as you leave the wood and head up the slope, the Lighthouse is at the top. Beyond the Lighthouse you can walk a cliff path, east through The Royal Cromer Golf Club to Overstrand. Between the Lighthouse and Cromer town there is also Happy Valley, North Lodge Park and a convenient cliff-top shelter for sea-watching. This whole area, including the cliff-top gorse scrub, combined with the grassy habitat of the golf course, criss-crossed by a network of footpaths, is a known magnet during Spring and Autumn migration. The areas most notable bird was Little Swift, which roosted on the cliff in 2005, but Iceland Gull, Woodchat Shrike, Pallid & Alpine Swift, Dusky and Bonelli's Warbler have also been seen.
