Brampton & Oxnead
The Bure valley at this point is a flood plain, with grazed and wilder areas. Many areas of farmland are managed for conservation. There are a number of copses and larger areas of woodland. The River Bure, Oxnead Mill and the surrounding ditches, overflows, locks and mill ponds are of both historic and conservation interest. There are many footpaths but for a short circular walk, this is suggested. Starting in Brampton, walk down the "hill" and turn left in to Common Lane and head east to the river and follow downstream to Oxnead Bridge. Crossing over the bridge continue downstream passing Oxnead Mill and Oxnead Hall until you come to a track with a north/south orientation. Take the southwards track away from the river and up a gentle slope through arable land with a small copse on your left. Continue along the track till you meet the Bure Valley Path at Buxton Station and walk west along the railway towards Brampton. At Brampton descend by either of the two sets of steps adjacent to the railway bridges and head back in to the village.
