Hopton

Image of Hopton birding site

Hopton is situated just south of the Norfolk border, and within walking distance of both Market Weston and Hopton Fens. It has a population of around 700 people, and has sufficient old houses to support a thriving population of swifts. It is surrounded by mainly arable fields, though with some cattle grazing in and around the fens. It has an active rookery (around 70 nests) close to Fen Street, and the same woodland hosts a very large roost of rooks and jackdaws which peaks at many hundreds of birds in the winter.
